Raleigh’s Mordecai Historic Park

Mordecai Historic Park is one of the most important sites of Raleigh which include many historic buildings, St. Mark’s chapel, an old law house and the birth place of the late U.S President Andrew Johnson. The original portion of the house was built by Joel Lane in 1785 for his son and daughter-in-law.

Mordecai Historic Park is situated in the old town area of Raleigh which exhibits the Mordecai House. The plantation house and museum has become the center piece of Raleigh. The park also exhibits original family furnishings and outbuildings which features kitchen and garden of 19th century. It provides an opportunity to view the history of Raleigh by means of narrative Historic Raleigh Trolley Tour.

The Ellen Mordecai Garden was re-constructed by getting inspired from original descriptions of the Mordecai kitchen garden in 1830. The garden remains open throughout the week. The house and the museum remain open from Tuesday to Saturday 9 am- 4 pm.
